Bloggers know that the term GDPR compliance has been floating around a lot lately. The intent of the GDPR or General Data Protection Regulation is to allow EU citizens to have more control over their data privacy. How GDPR compliance affects WordPress bloggers, it also affects every public website.
Businesses worldwide are subject to GDPR compliance for how they handle the data of EU citizens. This policy is effective as of May 24, 2018.
For Self-Hosted WordPress Users:
Self-hosted WordPress users, now have the option in the WordPress dashboard > Tools section, to Export and Erase Personal Data. Easy to comply with requests from EU citizens if necessary.
WordPress covers data collecting plugins such as WP Forms are covered under WordPress if the information collected is stored in your database. Third-party email service providers i.e. MailChimp or ConvertKit, are not covered under WordPress.
GDPR Compliance Affects WordPress bloggers who are using email service providers in other ways as well. Bloggers now have to get consent from their current subscribers if they want to remain on the bloggers’ mailing list, in order to be compliant.
