Ten Tips to Help Boost Your Productivity
Being your own boss can come with its’ own set of organizational problems. Sometimes working for ourselves translates into doing things as they arise and without a process. This amount of flexibility can also work against us when it comes to our productivity. Here is a list of ten tips to help boost your productivity. These may be particularly helpful on those days when it just seems like we can’t get any task on our to do list accomplished.
Ten Tips to Help Boost Your Productivity
1. Set goals and make daily to-dos, scheduling the most important tasks first. Complete the biggest or least fun task first, get it out of the way so you don’t have a pillar of darkness hanging over you. Batching your tasks by category can also be very helpful. For example, from 9am to 12pm are for admin tasks, 1pm to 3pm will be dedicated to social media tasks and set alarms to stick to a schedule.
2. Clean your desk at the end of your work day so the next morning you can arrive at a nice clear work area.
3. Remove distractions before beginning to work and have a set time to view social media and check emails. Checking your phone every 10 minutes to see the latest status update can lead to a major time suck.
4. Working in short spurts increase productivity. Chose to work in 30-90 minute intervals at a time will help your workflow.
5. For those with kiddos at home – one great tip is to have toys or games that the kids get to use only when you are working. This can be an incentive for them to behave as well.

6. Focus on one task at a time – multi-tasking means that none of your tasks are receiving 100% of your focus.
7. Choose to work at your ideal hours. Night owls are at their prime and most effective late at night so it would be beneficial for them to work those hours. I am usually not a morning person but I have personally found that my most productive time is at 5am. Find which time of day you thrive in and do your most important work then.
8. Make an effort to eat healthy foods, this includes snacks, during your work day. Eating doughnuts, cookies or processed foods can negatively affect your brain and body functions. I am not saying to quit cold turkey, but switching out cookies for carrots once in a while can be a good thing. Progress, not perfection.
9. Exercise, even if it’s just a quick walk around your neighborhood or street. Another quick option is 15 minutes of yoga to get the blood flowing and clear your mind.
10. Hire a virtual assistant to work on tasks that aren’t helping you reach your business goals but need to get done. Answering emails, posting to social media, etc., are tasks to delegate so you can focus on your favorite part of running your business.
